The Telegraph on Charles Stross
There was a terrific double review in The Telegraph over the weekend, looking at Charles Stross’ latest books, The Atrocity Archives and The Jennifer Morgue. Charlie is described as “British science fiction’s hot new writer, having turned out half a dozen novels in what seems like the last five minutes . . . Tremendously good, geeky fun.”

That just about sums him up! The more I’m reading the more I’m loving!

I find this hard to believe. I’ve only read the Glasshouse, which was very average, and appeared to be a writer firing on all cylinders, and still not getting beyond pulp fiction. Much of it seemed to be for shock effect, with a very studied attempt at casualness that just didn’t work. Perhaps Glasshouse was a weak moment for Stross, but to label this guy as a hot writer is pushing it.

Stross is fantastic, and Glasshouse IMNSHO was excellent. The Atrocity Archives and Jennifer Morgue are amongst some of the funniest and geekiest SF I’ve read in a long time, and his other novels are up there with Alastair Reynolds, Richard Morgan, and the best (i.e. first three) William Gibson.
