Bill, thanks for your comment. However, as Darren said above, there’s really nothing more we can say at the moment.

So sad that Robert Jordan has died – he’s left a great epic of a story behind him, which I hope can magically be finished! His books have whiled away many a boring hour travelling on the tube to work!

Millions all over the world will be as sad as me to hear of the death of Robert Jordan, whose superb creation The Wheel of Time has given such pleasure to so many of us. Please find someone (or more than one) to finish it who has the same high level of literary and imaginative skills, so it can stand as a lasting memorial to an immense talent.

As I understand it(and I am trying to confirm) Mr. Jordan was conveying the “what happens next” to his son.
This happened up until the day before he passed. It almost sounds like we are going to have a Tolkien-like situation, when JRR passed it all down to Christopher.
Only time will tell.

Unfortunatly, no one knows whether his son will have the devotion to his father’s work than christopher has. I mean, he probably also have a life of his own…Even though, i’d sure love to be able to read the final volume of this great epic story. For me, the news of his death was frank herbert’s death all over again
and that’s the reason i try not to read a saga before it is actually finished.

It is devastating to hear of robert jordans passing. It is a shame he could not finish his masterpiece that he put so much of his life into and all our thoughts are with his family. If ever the final book is finished i pray that whoever does it puts as much passion into it as he did and end it all in a way he would be proud of.

I had finished 1 through 11 and had just started reading the first book again in anticipation of the last volume, and was astounded by the news of his passing. I am very sad to have lost such a story teller, my condolences to his family and all who enjoyed his works. Hopefully we will still get to the end of the Wheel of Time.

I’ve read the series twice in the last three years. When I heard of his passing, I started reading the series again. Every time I read the books I pick up on somehing new that I missed the previous times. Such depth of writing is incredible.
I had mistakenly thought that I read someplace that the final installment was due out in early 2008, so I was rubbing my hands in anticipation as the New Year is just around the corner. But a few minutes ago on another site I read that is not due out till 2009. Perhaps, they were basing the ’09 release date on when Jordan was still alive. I read someplace else that in full health he would spend 12 – 14 hours per day writing the earlier books in the series. Towards the end that had been reduced to about 1 hour per day.
RIP Robert Jordan

The chap who has got the job of finishing the tale is Brandon Sanderson. Apparently he was chosen by the family of Robert Jordan so lets just hope they know best. Due publication date is (I think) end of 2009

Today is the first time I have accessed this book site, having intended but not quite managed on a number of previous occassions. I was eagerly looking for some indication of the release of the last wheel of time book, I am both saddened and shocked to read of Robert Jorden’s death. I became hooked on the series since I bought the first book, second hand from a stall in a Sunday market (for the princely sum of 75p) that I used to frequent for years before I moved from that area. I am grateful to Mr Jorden for hours of fun, magic and blood and guts he brought to my imagination.

Brian Sanderson is finishing the series, at the request of ”mrs jordan”, the manuscript is predicted to be finished late 2008, for a mid-2009 release. Any info can be found on dragonmount.com or wotmania.com.
This was all released to the various publishing houses in december 2007

I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the books. I heard that someone else will finish the final book. Is this true and any news on when the book will be published?

A story-teller of great skill has left a void that will not be filled quickly. My respects to his family and friends. I know i am adding my voice to those of countless others when i say RJ brightened my life with his amazing books.

Hi Dan -
The Wheel of Time is being completed by Brandon Sanderson. He’s had several novels published in the US, so he’s far from unknown… publication is currently scheduled for October 2009.
