Advanced Techniques in Booktrailer Creation
- The Orbit Team - August 6th, 2010
Trent Jamieson, in addition to writing an incredibly fun debut, has taken the time to carefully craft a book trailer that far outstrips any I’ve encountered in my days as an editor.
Seriously, do yourself a favor and go check it out on his site.

What a misleading title–I thought this was going to a ‘how to’.

Apologies, Andrew. This was intended more as an example. However, for the how to, here’s a rough outline of steps:
1. Rent a trailer. I’d suggest U-Haul or perhaps one of the many rental companies around town. Alternatively, drive around town until you see a trailer of appropriate size and determine that the occupants are a) asleep, b) at the store, and/or c) unarmed.
2. Print a poster of your book cover that covers at least two thirds of the side of your chosen trailer. I’d suggest getting it mounted on one of those foam-core thingies for extra stability, but, frankly, that can be pricey.
3. Take a picture with your camera.
4. Upload it to the internet. I’d suggest Facebook or maybe Flickr.
5. Tell everyone about it. This step, is arguably, the most important one.
(alternate instructions include using Photoshop, but things like that are, as my Creative Director always tells me, none of my business)
Cheers!
