SILVER-TONGUED DEVIL by Jaye Wells (a.k.a. My first Photo Shoot)

Hello all. As some of you may have read in a earlier post, I’m the new junior designer here at Orbit Books/Yen Press. I’ve been immersed in the world of book cover design here and — three months into working for the Orbit art department I’ve already been invited to a photo shoot?! How cool is that? This is my first photo shoot ever if you don’t count that embarrassing yearbook photo that my college made me do…

So, the art department here is busy working on the covers for the Spring/Summer 2012 season. Lauren was kind enough to invite this newbie along to the shoot for the fourth book in Jaye Wells’ Sabina Kane series, titled SILVER-TONGUED DEVIL. We wanted to keep the series look going with a bad-ass girl with gun on the cover so we headed over to the studios of Shirley Green, our lovely photographer to make the magic happen.

What’s tricky about this is to make the series look united but also different at the same time. So, we already have two frontal shots and one side shot — what do we have left? Luckily enough, our super talented (and funny) model Toni Busker gave us one great pose after another. With so many to choose from how will we ever choose the final cover? Now, I’ll leave that up to Lauren and Craig White, who is the fabulous illustrator of this series. I can’t wait to see Craig transform Toni from the pictures you see below to the half vampire, half mage Sabina Kane you see on the covers.

Aren’t they great?! Although Toni’s poses were fabulous, I think the best shot of all is… when I hijack the photo shoot and take Toni’s gun. I demand that I be the cover model for the 4th book!

Kidding! Of course that’s how I always hijack things, with a smile.

So my first photo shoot went well and was super fun. I can’t wait to go to the next one. Hint Hint.
