Cover Reveal: A Memory of Light, by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson

Twenty years. Thirteen books. Forty million fans.

And now the final battle approaches.

In January 2013, we’re delighted to be publishing A MEMORY OF LIGHT – the final volume in Robert Jordan’s international bestselling Wheel of Times series.

Here is the finished cover, courtesy of our designer Peter Cotton and illustrator Lee Gibbons.

To stay up to date with all things Wheel of Time and celebrate the exciting countdown to publication, ‘like’ our Turn The Wheel of Time Facebook page.

‘And it came to pass in those days, as it had come before and would come again, that the Dark lay  heavy on the land and weighed down the hearts of men, and the green things failed, and hope died.’ – From Charal Drianaan te Calamon, The Cycle of the Dragon.

In the Field of Merrilor the rulers of the nations gather to join behind Rand al’Thor, or to stop him from his plan to break the seals on the Dark One’s prison – which may be a sign of his madness, or the last hope of humankind. Egwene, the Amyrlin Seat, leans toward the former.

In Andor, the Trollocs seize Caemlyn.

In the wolf dream, Perrin Aybara battles Slayer.

Approaching Ebou Dar, Mat Cauthon plans to visit his wife Tuon, now Fortuona, Empress of the Seanchan.

All humanity is in peril – and the outcome will be decided in Shayol Ghul itself. The Wheel is turning, and the Age is coming to its end. The Last Battle will determine the fate of the world . . .

For twenty years The Wheel of Time has enthralled more than forty million readers in over thirty-two languages. A MEMORY OF LIGHT brings this majestic fantasy creation to its richly satisfying conclusion.

Working from notes and partials left by Robert Jordan when he died in 2007, and consulting with Jordan’s widow, who edited all of Jordan’s books, established fantasy writer Brandon Sanderson has recreated the vision Jordan left behind.

A MEMORY OF LIGHT will be published on 8 January 2013.

The Time has come… It is with expectation that I await the finish to a work that not only inspired and strengthened my imagination, but also brought Epic Fantasy back to form. I will keep ‘The Wheel of Time’ series always in my library so that one day my children will know that in the greatest depths of a well told story there are the truths that govern us to be who and what we are. May the one that wrote the story, be riding for an eternity on the wheel that he built and turned with the words he wrote.

I am so excited for the release of this book, and a little sad truth be told. I have been a fan of the series for some time now and seeing it almost at the end is a bit depressing.

I always have had the books on my shelf waiting for another re read, always had the ability to go online and read through some of the amazing theories people have come up with and most importantly of all I always had another book to look forward too. I almost don’t want it to end.

That being said I would not trade it for anything. It has been a hell of a ride and I guess only the destination remains now. Thank you so much for the years of enjoyment and expectation!

I have been reading and rereading this series since I was in 7th grade, making it a 16 year journey for me so far. Between the vastly rich characters, realistic descriptions of a world completely created and given life, the intrigue of the politics and the depth of the relationships, there never has nor will there ever again be a series like this. With the last book comes a closure that I’m not sure I can describe, as a part of a community bonded through the experiences these books provide I can honestly say that I’m truly happy we got to see how this concludes despite the tragic loss of Mr. Jordan, may he rest in peace until the patter spins him back into existence.

Cannot wait to read this, and much thanks to TOR for making the prologue freely available. :-) It’s awesome to be able to see the cover and read the blurb! Now, you guys just need to put some pressure on Penguin SA to ensure a same-time release date… ;-)

How does this cover compare to the Michael Whelan one? http://www.tor.com/blogs/2012/05/michael-whelans-cover-for-a-memory-of-light-revealed

Are they both being printed? Is one only for paperback? How do I go about getting the white cover? Any ideas welcome, thanks in advance!
