THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS Film Award Nominations!

The Girl With All the Gifts
The film industry’s award season is now in full swing and we’re thrilled that the movie version of THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS (US|UK|AUS) has been racking up some well-deserved nominations:

The BAFTAs
Mike Carey has been nominated in the Outstanding Debut category alongside the producer, Camille Gatin.

The National Film Awards
Gemma Arterton has picked up nominations for both the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress awards (no, we’re not  sure how that works either) and THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS has been nominated for Best Action Film.

The Empire Awards
The readers of Empire magazine have nominated THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS for Best British Film and Sennia Nanua is shortlisted in the Best Female Newcomer category.

For another taste of Carey’s breathtaking storytelling check out his new novel, THE BOY ON THE BRIDGE (UK|US|AUS), in which he returns to the world of THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS. It will be hitting shops in May and is available for preorder now.

Once upon a time, in a land blighted by terror, there was a very clever boy.
The people thought the boy could save them, so they opened their gates and sent him out into the world.

To where the monsters lived.

THE FIFTH SEASON wins a Hugo Award!

Congratulations to N.K. Jemisin, whose THE FIFTH SEASON won the Hugo Award for Best Novel last night in Kansas City!

The sequel to THE FIFTH SEASON, THE OBELISK GATE (US | UK | ANZ), is now available as well. Early praise has called it “even more engrossing” (Amal El-Mohtar for NPR Books).

THE FIFTH SEASON was in good company, the other nominees for Best Novel including Ann Leckie’s ANCILLARY MERCY (US | UK | ANZ).

Congratulations to all the Hugo Award nominees and winners!

Award finalists: Gemmell and World Fantasy!

The shortlists for the David Gemmell Awards and the World Fantasy Award have been released! We’re excited to have authors on both lists.

N.K. Jemisin’s THE FIFTH SEASON is a finalist for the World Fantasy Award. This is Jemisin’s third nomination for the award,  THE HUNDRED THOUSAND KINGDOMS and THE KILLING MOON also having appeared on the shortlist. The winner will be announced at World Fantasy Convention in Columbus, OH, at the end of October.

We’re also thrilled that BATTLEMAGE by Stephen Aryan has been shortlisted for the Morningstar Award for Best Debut Novel! In addition, on the shortlist for the David Gemmell Legend Award for Best Novel are THE DREAD WYRM by Miles Cameron and RUIN by John Gwynne.

The Gemmell Awards have open voting; you can vote for your favorites on the Gemmell Awards website.

Glenda Larke Wins Inaugural Sara Douglass Award

Huge Orbit congratulations go to Glenda Larke this week for winning the inaugural Sara Douglass Award for her Watergivers trilogy!

Glenda says she is ‘So honoured. So chuffed. So breathtakingly amazed’ and writes a little more about the award and its namesake at her blog. The award was given at the Aussi Natcon 2016 in Brisbane during the Aurealis ceremony over the weekend, and is given to an entire series, not a single novel.

The Watergivers trilogy is available from Orbit in print and ebook and begins with THE LAST STORMLORD (UK|US).
