More Fonda Lee is coming your way! Orbit is delighted to announce that we have acquired a stunning new science fiction duology from the World Fantasy Award-winning author of Jade City!

Inspired by samurai movies and Fonda’s former business career, The Last Contract of Isako is a searing space opera like no other that takes aim squarely at late-stage capitalism. Get ready to meet an aging contractor, Ithmus Isako, whose final mission thrusts her deep into a world of espionage and sword fights on an isolated colony planet.

Are you excited? I hope so! Here are a few words from Fonda to further whet your appetite: “The Last Contract of Isako is the cyberpunk samurai space opera that’s been percolating in my brain for years. It’s a science fiction mystery chanbara story set on a harsh Arrakis-style tundra planet but blend in Blade Runner vibes and a touch of John Wick. I’m very much looking forward to introducing readers to Isako.”

The Last Contract of Isako lands in bookstores in Winter 2025. In the meantime, you can follow Fonda on Twitter @FondaJLee and learn more about her and her work at www.fondalee.com. And, while you wait, don’t forget to check out The Green Bone Saga, now complete!

Cover Launch: JADE LEGACY by Fonda Lee

After many entertaining guesses from fans of Fonda Lee’s Green Bone Saga, we’re thrilled to reveal the actual title and cover of the final volume of the series that began with the World Fantasy Award-winning JADE CITY (US | UK) and continues in the newly-published and much-anticipated JADE WAR (US | UK)…

Check out the gorgeous cover for JADE LEGACY, designed by Lisa Marie Pompilio:

To tell you a little more about the book:

Jade, the mysterious and magical substance once exclusive to the Green Bone warriors of Kekon, is now known and coveted throughout the world. Everyone wants access to the supernatural abilities it provides, from traditional forces such as governments, mercenaries, and criminal kingpins, to modern players, including doctors, athletes, and movie studios. As the struggle over the control of jade grows ever larger and more deadly, the Kaul family, and the ancient ways of the Kekonese Green Bones, will never be the same.

The Kauls have been battered by war and tragedy. They are plagued by resentments and old wounds as their adversaries are on the ascent and their country is riven by dangerous factions and foreign interference that could destroy the Green Bone way of life altogether. As a new generation arises, the clan’s growing empire is in danger of coming apart.

The clan must discern allies from enemies, set aside aside bloody rivalries, and make terrible sacrifices… but even the unbreakable bonds of blood and loyalty may not be enough to ensure the survival of the Green Bone clans and the nation they are sworn to protect.

In the meantime, catch up on all the latest happenings in Kekon with Jade War, and go tell Fonda how much you love her new cover at her website and on Twitter @FondaJLee!

Cover Launch: JADE WAR by Fonda Lee

Do you feel your jade senses tingling? Are you wondering what surprise the world has in store today?

We’re excited to launch the cover of JADE WAR (US | UK), Fonda Lee’s much-anticipated sequel to the Nebula, Locus, and World Fantasy Award-nominated JADE CITY (US | UK)! In this installment of the Green Bone Saga, the Kaul siblings battle rival clans for honor and for control of the metropolis of Janloon—which you can see in the background of the cover (designed by the fabulous Lisa Marie Pompilio).

To tell you a bit more about what’s in store for the Kauls:

On the island of Kekon, the Kaul family is locked in a violent feud for control of the capital city and the supply of magical jade that endows trained Green Bone warriors with supernatural powers they alone have possessed for hundreds of years.

Beyond Kekon’s borders, war is brewing. Powerful foreign governments and mercenary criminal kingpins alike turn their eyes on the island nation. Jade, Kekon’s most prized resource, could make them rich—or give them the edge they’d need to topple their rivals.

Faced with threats on all sides, the Kaul family is forced to form new and dangerous alliances, confront enemies in the darkest streets and the tallest office towers, and put honor aside in order to do whatever it takes to ensure their own survival—and that of all the Green Bones of Kekon.

Jade War publishes in Summer 2019 and is available for preorder, but in the meantime, go say hi to Fonda at her website and on Twitter @FondaJLee.
