THE FIFTH SEASON wins a Hugo Award!

Congratulations to N.K. Jemisin, whose THE FIFTH SEASON won the Hugo Award for Best Novel last night in Kansas City!

The sequel to THE FIFTH SEASON, THE OBELISK GATE (US | UK | ANZ), is now available as well. Early praise has called it “even more engrossing” (Amal El-Mohtar for NPR Books).

THE FIFTH SEASON was in good company, the other nominees for Best Novel including Ann Leckie’s ANCILLARY MERCY (US | UK | ANZ).

Congratulations to all the Hugo Award nominees and winners!

Awards Round Up

Orbit have entered Awards Season in style this year! You’ve already heard that N. K. Jemisin and Ann Leckie have been nominated for the Nebula Awards, but here’s a round up of our books on other glittering awards lists . . .

Kim Stanley Robinson’s AURORA (UK|US|ANZ) and Ann Leckie’s ANCILLARY MERCY (UK|US|ANZ) are shortlisted in the Science Fiction category of this year’s Audie Awards for outstanding audiobooks, with N. K. Jemsin’s THE FIFTH SEASON (UK|US|ANZ) shortlisted in the Fantasy category too.

Glenda Larke is up for a slew of Australian awards with THE DAGGER’S PATH (UK|US|ANZ), sequel to THE LASCAR’S DAGGER, shortlisted for the Ditmar, the Aurealis and the Norma K. Hemming awards! Her Watergivers trilogy is also up for the Sarah Douglass Award for complete series.

On top of her Nebula  and Audie nominations, N. K. Jemisin’s (literally) groundbreaking fantasy THE FIFTH SEASON has also been shortlisted for Best Novel by the judges of the Kitschies Awards! The Kitschies are awarded to ‘progressive, intelligent and entertaining’ works of SFF, and will be announced just next week, Monday 7th March.

The nominees for the Andre Norton Award for Young Adult Science Fiction and Fantasy also include an Orbit author: COURT OF FIVES was nominated, by Kate Elliott, author of last fall’s BLACK WOLVES (US | UK | AUS).

Congratulations to Ann Leckie, N.K. Jemisin, Kate Elliott, and the rest of the nominees!

Cover Launch: THE OBELISK GATE by N. K. Jemisin

We are excited to release the cover for THE OBELISK GATE, which was launched at The Mary Sue earlier this week.  This is the second novel in the Broken Earth series by N. K. Jemisin, and we know that you’ll love it as much as you did the first novel, THE FIFTH SEASON (US | UK | AUS). The Obelisk Gate continues the story of Essun and Alabaster as each continue their search.  A post-apocalyptic fantasy at its core, this is a novel of the end of the world, of secrets revealed and of betrayals that still scar the land.

THIS IS THE WAY THE WORLD ENDS… FOR THE LAST TIME.

The season of endings grows darker as civilization fades into the long cold night.  Alabaster Tenring — madman, world-crusher, savior — has returned with a mission:  to train his successor, and thus seal the fate of the Stillness forever.

It continues with a lost daughter, found by the enemy.

It continues with the obelisks, and an ancient mystery converging on answers at last.

The Stillness is the wall which stands against the flow of tradition, the spark of hope long buried under the thickening ashfall. And it will not be broken.

Check out what reviewers have been saying about The Fifth Season:

— RT Book Reviews (Top Pick!)

“[The Fifth Season is] an ambitious book, with a shifting point of view, and a protagonist whose full complexity doesn’t become apparent till toward the end of the novel.”

— Guardian
