About Orbit

Orbit is a leading publisher of Science Fiction and Fantasy, with imprints in the UK, US and Australia. We publish across the spectrum of Science Fiction and Fantasy – from action-packed urban fantasy to widescreen space opera; from sweeping epic adventures to near-future thrillers.

Established in 1974, Orbit UK is the British publisher of many of the biggest names in modern SF, such as Iain M. Banks, Ken Macleod and Charles Stross. Our fantasy authors include international bestsellers Terry Brooks, Trudi Canavan, Robert Jordan and Tad Williams, as well as many new stars of the genre, such as R. Scott Bakker, Karen Miller, Brian Ruckley and K.J. Parker. Over recent years, we have also built an acclaimed list of urban fantasy fiction, with authors such as Kelley Armstrong, Mike Carey and Laurell K. Hamilton. We publish approximately 80 titles each year and we are the biggest Science Fiction and Fantasy imprint in the UK. Orbit UK is an imprint of Little, Brown Book Group.

Launched in 2007, Orbit US is the Science Fiction and Fantasy imprint at Hachette Book Group USA. Our authors include Joe Abercrombie, Iain M. Banks, Karen Miller, Lilith Saintcrow and Brent Weeks. We publish approximately 40 titles each year from both established and debut authors. Following our successful launch, we announced in 2008 that we will be doubling the size of the list over the next three years.

Orbit books are published locally in Australia by our editorial, sales and marketing team at Hachette Livre Australia. Orbit Australia publishes only writers from Australia and New Zealand, including Trudi Canavan, Pamela Freeman, and Joel Shepherd. However, you will find that many of the books published by Orbit UK are also available in Australia and New Zealand.

Orbit UK titles are also distributed in South Africa by Penguin.

As well as sharing a name and a website, Orbit UK, Orbit US and Orbit Australia also share a number of authors, and we all work closely together to ensure that our schedules and promotions are coordinated as much as possible.

Another thing Orbiteers from around the world share is the same goal: to publish the most exciting Science Fiction and Fantasy for the widest possible readership. We are committed to attracting more readers to Science Fiction and Fantasy. Whether you’re an existing SFF reader, read it in the past and have given up, or never read it before, if you love imaginative fiction, you’re in the right place.
